There are different stages to becoming a chef, and a good one for
that matter. You will need to start from the bottom, and particularly
as a cook. Being a chef is a profession where most of the training is
acquired while on the job. As much as going to school is important, most
of the training is achieved at the work place.Becoming a great chef is not an easy task. Competency does not entail concocting tasty meals, but rather being well versed in food safety & sanitation, some chemistry, human resource management and mathematical calculations. The attributes that make a great chef include:
· Ability to multi-task
The chef should learn how to perform different tasks at the same time.
He/she must be in a position to juggle knives and vegetables, have the speed and skill in peeling fruits such as pineapples, and cutting chicken. It is also the responsibility of the chef to make sure customers are receiving orders in time. The chef is also responsible for proposing the budget and determining which quantities of supplies are required in the kitchen.
